About Us - History
Addressing one of the major cause of terrorism, lack of education and misguidance, Army undertook an initiative to bring light to the lives of people of the remote area of Suran valley in Poonch district, which was one of the worst terrorist affected region south of Pir-Panjal ranges. AGS Potha thus came into being on 01 Jun 2003 under aegis of Romeo Force as ‘OP Sadbhavana Education and Welfare Trust, model village, Potha”. It started with a meagre strength because of fear psychosis. Army took a major step forward by sponsoring educational expenses, books and uniforms of children of the region whose parents were killed by terrorist during the period of militancy. At present, there are a total of 18 adopted children who are undergoing free education at AGS, Potha. It has since then grown from strength to strength and AGS, Potha today boasts of more than 613 students, qualified teachers from all across the country, well equipped science and computer lab, a well stocked library and playfield with volleyball & basketball courts and free bus services.
The school is preparing its students to accept challenges outside J&K. Personality of students is given a boost by interaction with students from all parts of the country. AGS, Potha as an institution symbolises hope, a desire to excel and above all an indomitable spirit to overcome challenges & emerge victorious.
